Technology Services & Oral Conscious Sedation
Modern science has revolutionized the dental industry, allowing for increased accuracy, precision, and comfort. Magnification and transillumination allow Dr. Curtis to detect hairline fractures and small areas of decay that are difficult to see with traditional X-rays. Early detection means more conservative treatment and preservation of your natural tooth structure. Our intraoral camera captures high-resolution photos of the inside of your mouth, which also help with accurate diagnoses. Dr. Curtis can display the photos on a chairside monitor and explains his findings - a process we call codiagnosis, in which you become an active participant in treatment planning.
For major restorative or cosmetic cases, Dr. Curtis uses digital imaging to show patients a preview of the potential outcome. This means you can see your potential smile before making treatment decisions.
Your comfort is imperative. Dr. Curtis uses air abrasion, when possible, instead of the traditional dental drill. Air abrasion prepares teeth with a gentle spray of air and abrasive particles. In most cases, patients don't even need anesthetic (shots) with air abrasion!
Advances in anxiety-reducing medications offer benefits for our patients, as well. With oral conscious sedation, you can relax comfortably while Dr. Curtis completes your cosmetic or restorative dental procedures. Oral conscious sedation makes hours feel like minutes, potentially allowing you to receive several treatments in a single visit.
Oral conscious sedation is great for patients who have:
- Anxiety about visiting the dentist
- Difficulty getting comfortable in the dentist's chair
- Neck, back, or shoulder pain
- A strong gag reflex
- Time constraints
With over 20 years of experience providing sedation dentistry, Dr. Curtis can help you decide if it's right for you. He'll answer all of your questions and provide expert advice so that you can make informed decisions.
