How Long Does ZOOM Teeth Whitening Take?

Fall is drawing closer, and that means it’s almost pumpkin spice latte season. As delicious as these drinks are, they can leave behind some unsightly stains on your pearly whites. After too much coffee, they might not be so bright anymore. Luckily, your cosmetic dentist offers ZOOMteeth whiteningto help remove those stains and restore the shine to your smile. Let’s take a closer look at how the ZOOM whitening process works.

Getting Ready

First things first, your teeth will need to be professionally cleaned before they can be whitened. This might mean an extra appointment with your cosmetic dentist, but the wait will definitely be worth it. Before the appointment proper begins, you’ll have to fill out some paperwork, but this should only take a few minutes at most. Once that is done, your smile is ready to be brightened.

The ZOOM Process

The procedure begins with protecting your gums and other soft tissues in your mouth from the powerful whitening solution with cheek retractors, cotton balls, etc. This also serves to prevent your top and bottom teeth from touching each other. Next, your dentist will paint a protective layer on your gums, just to be safe.

Then, your dentist will apply the ZOOM whitening gel to the front surfaces of your teeth and set the laser light in front of them. You will sit like this for 15 minutes before your dentist comes and checks on you. They will wipe off the solution and examine the new shade of your smile. If you want it to be even lighter, the process will be started again. Many patients take 4 processes per session, but you can stop after 1, 2, or 3 if you would like.

The solution is powerful, so you may experience some sensitivity at any point during the procedure. However, this is only temporary, and you can usually prevent this by taking some ibuprofen before your appointment. Be sure to ask your dentist or doctor if it’s alright beforehand, though.

After Your Appointment

Most patients will see dramatically brighter results of 8-10 shades whiter after just one visit. In order to keep your smile that bright, there are a few things you’ll have to avoid for at least 48 hours after your appointment, such as:

  • Smoking
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Tomato sauce
  • Curry
  • Berries

ZOOM teeth whitening can take up to an hour, but if you’re satisfied with the results even sooner, it doesn’t even have to take that long. You will be happy with the results for months or even years to come!
